About Carmen Yau
Over the two decades, Carmen conducts different forms of research and projects to address intersectional inequality of the disabled, women, the LGBT+, BAME. In August 2022, Carmen was the ONLY disability advocate to represent Hong Kong China to show her face in the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). She presented one report on rights and equality issue about disabled women in Chinese community. She also presented a confidential report on political rights and health inequality of disabled people and those who acquired disabilities as the consequences of the social unrest. Carmen also helped to address issues in related to forced marriage among disabled women in China. As a researcher and an advocate, Carmen presented rigours research data and practical recommendations to the UN Committee.

The “UN Women USA Rise and Raise Others Award” is an acknowledgement of achievements that women have made supporting and inspiring women and girls all over the world. We celebrate the generous dedication of women helping other women in the hopes of inspiring others to do the same.
